If your cats have been unlucky to have fleas, they you may have seen them, they’re small little things the hid amongst your cats fur, sucking their blood and making them itch.  For some cats it itching is so intense that they make scratch their fur and skin until they bleed. Fleas don’t just love cats but they like certain humans too, if you wake up covered in bites then chances are it’s fleas that have been having a midnight feast on you.

If you’ve had a bad infestation then you may have seen them jumping through your carpet, surprisingly they can jump up to 33 cm. While they are a definite nuassiance there are plently of ways to get flea infestations under control and as long as you break the cycle you should be able to get rid of them without much hassle. continue reading…

It’s horrible when you lose your cat, you worry whether they’re ok, have then found shelter, have they found something to eat and whether you will be reunited. I’ve seen a lot of people ask how to find their lost cat recently in forums and on yahoo answers so instead of answering each individual, I decided that I would put all my thoughts into this one post and direct people here.

There are a number of things you can do to ensure if they are found they’re returned to you such as micro-chipping but that’s no use to you if you’ve not got round it before they disappeared or the person who finds them doesn’t think to contact the local vet to have the microchip read.  So here are my list of things to do that should help you to find your lost cat. continue reading…

Training – What’s the need?

Some people are happy for their cats to sleep on their beds, sofa’s, ironing pile or dirty washing basket and as long you don’t mind picking up all the hair there’s no problem.

Others might be concerned about tick and fleas being transferred to beds or breathing difficulties being made worse at night with cats sleeping in the same space as you.

You may have heard the myth that cats hate water but by now you’ll probably know that this isn’t entirely true.  Cat do like water, in fact they love running cold water that they get to drink. So you might find that they prefer to drink from other sources instead of the water you pour in their bowl such as from the toilet or puddles outside.

There are a few theories why cats prefer to do this, but no one is 100% sure.  It maybe because instinctively they know not to drink from still water as there is a risk of this making them sick, however this theory doesn’t hold true if your cat likes to drink from puddles.

All cat are thought to venture out and explore their locality at least once in a lifetime, they can actually go as far as 10 miles, so it’s understandable that some of them will actually get lost.  For me this is a good enough reason why every cat should be micro chipped or have a collar with your contact details on.

Many people wrongly assume that a friendly cat who constantly sits at your door step or window sill is a stray cat but this isn’t usually the case. These cat’s know you’re someone who is kind to cats and are trying their luck.
