Sureflap Microchip Cat Flap Features
Sureflap Microchip Cat Flap works with all types of microchips including 9, 10 and 15 digit microchips. This means your cat doesn’t need to wear a collar which can irritate your cat or become a hazard if it gets tangled while your cat is enjoying an adventure outside.
Its patented low power Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology is the reason why it stands apart from other microchip cat flaps meaning it runs off batteries. So no need to have a power supply close by, great if you don’t have a plug socket near your door or don’t want extra cables trailing around the house. To save power it only scans for the microchip when it senses your cats head by the flap. This enables the batteries to last roughly 6 months with normal use and I’m assuming normal use means 1 cat.
Each Sureflap Microchip Cat Flap can register 32 cats and if you need to register more then oldest registered microchips are replaced first. There’s also the option of deleting codes if you have entered the wrong ones by mistake.
Like a manual cat flap it has 4 way manual lock so it still allows you to lock cats in for the night once they have come back home.
Sureflap Microchip Cat Flap Pros
- It only takes seconds to register each cat
- Even when the batteries die the Sureflap Microchip Cat Flap still retains all the microchip numbers so you don’t have to register them again.
- The cat flap opens in a fraction of a section once it reads the microchips and closes within a few seconds of your cat passing through. But if this isn’t quick enough to stop any other feline intruders following your cat in there is a quicker closing mode that can be activated.
- It doesn’t require your cat to wear a collar to use it like magnetic cat flaps.
- The Sureflap Microchip cat flap has a 4 way manual lock giving you control over when your cats can go out
- Since its battery powered there’s no need for trailing cables or a plug socket near your door
- Works with all types of microchips so no need for an extra trip to the vets
- Fits the hole left by most of makes of cat flaps so it’s very easy to install
- Since it can be fitted in glass panels it’s suitable for all types of doors
- This microchip cat flap can be installed directly into walls of any thickness by using a tunnel extender
- It reads FDXB, FDXA and Avid Secure/Encrypted Chip microchips otherwise known as 15, 10 and 9 digit microchips.
Sureflap Microchip Cat Flap Cons
- The microchip cat flap is only available in white; while this won’t be an issue for most it might not look attractive in dark coloured doors
- It’s only available in 1 size so the Sureflap Microchip Cat Flap will be big enough for most cats but larger cat breads such as the Maine Coon may struggle to get through it.
- You can use the manual 4 way lock to stop cats for leaving the house but you can not pick and choose which cats which are allowed out as this is a manual function so doesn’t use the microchip reader to limit it to specific cats.
- Only works with microchipped cats.
Sureflap Microchip Cat Flap Accessories
Mounting adaptor
This is only needed when installing the cat flap into glass panels as your glazier will cut a round hole and the mounting adaptor will cover the gaps surrounding the cat flap. It also allows the cat flap to be installed into a wall without the need for adhesives which can be a nightmare to remove at a later date. The mounting adaptor is suitable for covering holes from 210mm (8.5”) to 260mm (10.25”) in diameter.
Tunnel Extender
If you are installing into wall then the tunnel extender will bridge the gap between one side of the Sureflap Microchip Cat Flap to the other. Each extender adds 2 inches to the cat flap tunnel and tunnel extenders can be added together so it doesn’t matter how thick your wall is, with the tunnel extender the Sureflap Microchip Cat Flap can accommodate any thickness of wall.
